Dollhouse kits are not just a toy anymore but have evolved into a collectible that families pass down through generations.  Girls of all ages love dollhouses and the miniature treasures that fill each room.  Miniature porcelains and books, miniature rugs and furniture, all the dollhouse accessories that your imagination can dream of are available to help you furnish your very own unique dollhouse.

So which dollhouse is right for you?  With so many to choose from, the choice can be a bit overwhelming.  Start by asking yourself a few simple questions:  How old is the person the dollhouse is for?  Will it be a much loved and played with dollhouse?  For a younger child, a good choice might be a smaller dollhouse with large rooms.  One that is strong and sturdy without all the fancy delicate outer trimmings.  Remember to keep your furnishings strong and sturdy as well for your young dollhouse enthusiast. 

Affordability is another factor to consider.  Many dollhouses have additions that can be added at a later date. You can even add one addition or wing at a time.  It makes it much easier on the pocketbook when starting your dollhouse collection this way.

Dollhouse needs change as children grow.  Additions may be added.  Fine porcelain china replaces plastic plates.  Replicas of fine art, or even an original piece of artwork now hangs in the dollhouse where a picture cut out from a magazine once hung.  Keep this in mind when purchasing for a youngster.  In time, the dollhouse will change from an imaginative world into a dollhouse filled with highly prized collectibles.

Your decision as to the style of dollhouse is probably the easiest and most fun choice you have to make.  Will your dream dollhouse be a farmhouse?  Are you going more for a contemporary dollhouse?  What time period calls to you?  Is your imagination longing for a life of Victorian splendor with elegant formal rooms?  Or maybe you will want to recreate a log cabin your ancestors lived in.  This is where your heart takes over and helps you choose that perfect dollhouse.

Whatever dollhouse you finally decide on, remember this.  The dollhouse you are about to create, will not only provide hours of pleasure, but years of pleasure.  And some day, your dollhouse will become a family heirloom that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
