Opinions on some books?

Today I got my list of summer reading material for AP English next year. So, I’m curious…What are your opinions on any (or even all) of these selections? Which did you like/dislike? Anything else you want to add?

I actively dislike Oedipus Rex and The Great Gatsby. You’ll have to read Gatsby eventually though and many people truly love it so you should probably ignore me. I think I may have missed the point of The Awakening because it left essentially no impression on me, so I should probably read it again. Hamlet is fantastic but I think it is more fun and rewarding to read in an explicatory/discussion setting than it is to just sit and read by yourself. I haven’t read that particular Moliere but his other stuff is eminently enjoyable. The same goes for the rest of your list. It really is a nice readable selection. Wilde, Huxley, Hamilton and Shelley go down like candy. Miller and Ibsen are bleaker but still very personable, plus they’re plays which makes them both faster and easier to analyze. I would suggest reading as many from the list as you can. They are all things that you will want in your lexicon. Have a great summer!
