intelligent, low maintenance, short lifespan pets?
rats are intelligent && don.t live that long, but they do take a lot of care
my mom doesn.t feel like taking care of another pet, so i need something low maintenance that a lazy teenager could take care of
i know that some turtles are pretty low maintenance, but i.m not sure about their intelligence
my mom told me about her rats that she had when she was little && how one of them would jump out of the cage, work it.s way across the room onto a bookcase && pick cheerios out of a dollhouse dresser && bring them back to her cage.
that made me want a pet that would be friendly, relatively low maintenance, and intelligent/entertaining/trainable [kind of] that lives a relatively short life, somewhere around five years give or take a year or two.
are there any pets like this that aren.t cats, dogs, fish, lizards, or snakes?
any additional info about a critter you recommend is preferred :]
There really aren’t any that meet your requirements. A rat is about as intelligent and interactive as you can get with a small animal, and they are quite low maintenance as pets, in the larger scheme of things. If you think they are high maintenance, you don’t really have any other options that would be intelligent and short-lived that I can think of. Anything else intelligent (like birds) are quite long-lived, and other pets with short lifespans (like hamsters) are just as much work or more than a rat is, and not as intelligent.
